The Swans of Lakes Park: A Living History of The Dominion’s Resident Icons

For residents of The Dominion, the sight of swans gliding across the water at Lakes Park is a familiar part of the neighborhood landscape. While they are a centerpiece of the community’s aesthetic, these birds are more than just a visual amenity; they are a cherished part of our local history with a legacy dating back over thirty years.

A Community Legacy

The presence of swans in the Cottage Estates area began in the early 1990s, initiated by a Dominion Resident. The original pair were two baby swans brought over from one of the community's golf course lakes. Over the decades, the care of these birds has been a dedicated hand-off between neighbors, passed from neighbor to neighbor who have ensured their well-being continues today.

The swans at Lakes Park are identifiable by their white plumage and distinctive orange beaks. This species is known for several unique traits. Lakes Park serves as a sanctuary for these birds, where the maintenance of water levels and surrounding vegetation is tailored to support them. Their presence is a testament to The Dominion's commitment to integrating wildlife into the neighborhood's high-end infrastructure, preserving a piece of community history that began decades ago.
